Look Up and Rejoice

Lk 21: 25 – 38

‘LOOK UP AND REJOICE!” This is the call that presumes He is near.  The attendant at a first century Jewish wedding knew that the bridegroom was close by and that he was

coming at any moment (Mt 25:1 – 13).  We who live after the Ascension know that He has come in power and glory” (v 27) and that He comes in countless ways in times between.

These four weeks of ADVENT are a microcosm of all our life, a time for us to practice our preparation and sharpen our attentiveness, a time for slowing down, for making space

to hear again and again the “still, small voice “(1 Kgs 19:12).

Our Lord longs to strengthen our relationship with Him through the mysteries of the ADVENT Season:

THE ANCIENT BIRTH-NARRATIVE OF JESUS, THE CARDS, THE  PRAYERS, THE IMAGES OF ANGELS AND SHEPHERDS.

For ADVENT is the Season which reminds us that our God is the ONE who is continually  approaching  us,

coming to us, seeking entry into our lives, waiting to be invited into the inner sanctuary of our being.  Unfortunately,

the frantic preparations for December 25th, are not the quiet meditative preparation that shapes our spiritual sense of faith, hope and charity.

COULD THIS ADVENT SEASON BE DIFFERENT FOR US THIS YEAR?

–  Could we re-arrange our priorities and allow ourselves to spend more time with the Lord?

–  Could we make room at the inn of our souls to experience afresh the Christ who lives there?

May this ADVENT be for all of us a holy season with Christ, with enough space to be with Him in quiet and joy and praise.

‘HEAVEN AND EARTH WILL PASS AWAY, BUT MY WORD WILL NEVER PASS AWAY”(v 33).
